WhaT AR E THE MAJOR CAUSES OF DAMAGE, DESTRUCTION, AND DEATH?
There are a lot of different natural disasters. No matter which one you chose, they all cause alot lot of damage, destruction, and deaths. Tornadoes produce very powerful winds that can tear apart buildings or push them to the point of collapse. Buildings may receive lesser damage as the winds tear away pieces, or push in parts until the buckle. The wind can also pick up objects, such as pieces of buildings and turn them into flying debris, which can cause even more damage. Most people who die in tornadoes are struck by flying debris or are crushed under calling objects or collapsing buildings. Less often people may be lifted up by the winds and hurled to their deaths.
NUMBERS OF PEOPLES KILLED ANNUALLY
The numbers of death caused by tornadoes every year in different places are over million. During April 25–28, 2011, a massive storm system generated 351 tornadoes (including 15 registering 4 or 5 on the Enhanced Fujita [EF] scale*), killing 338 persons in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Among the 338 decedents, median age was 55.0 years (range: 4 days–97 years); approximately one third were older adults. On tornado impact, 46.7% of decedents were in single-family homes, and 26.6% were in mobile homes. The leading cause of death was traumatic injury, including 21.9% with head injuries. Half of the deadly tornadoes were rated EF-4 or EF-5 and were responsible for 89.5% of the deaths.
MONEY DAMAGE INCURRED
Fixing all the damage that the tornado has caused takes up a lot of time, effort, and money. Most tornadoes that actually cause damage might do few thousand to a few hundred thousand dollars in damage. Some of stronger tornadoes may cause damage in the millions of dollars. The very worst of tornadoes can cause hundreds of millions of dollars in damage, on a few occasions damage costs have exceeded $1 billion. NOAA resources say $16.5 million worth of damage was caused by the tornado, but it does not specify if that is modern amounts or the amount in 1925. That why people don't like to live in a place with a lot of tornadoes.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF VICTIMS OF YOUR DISASTER
There are a lot of injuries during a tornado disaster, and sometimes you might need to clean up the bad injuries right away before they get worse or get infected. After a tornado disaster, check everyone for injuries. Do not attempt to move seriously injured people unless they are in immediate danger of further injury. Get medical assistance immediately. If someone has stopped breathing, begin CPR if you are trained to do so. Stop a bleeding injury by applying direct pressure to the wound. Clean out all open wounds and cuts with soap and clean water. Apply an antibiotic ointment. Contact a doctor to find out whether more treatment is needed (such as a tetanus shot). If a wound gets red, swells, or drains, seek immediate medical attention. Have any puncture wound evaluated by a physician. If you are trapped, try to attract attention to your location.
